From Struggle to Three Hustles: Christina’s Story

Christina Mohlapamaswi describes herself as a mother who is building not just one business, but three.

She is the woman behind Junior's Boutique, Junior's Laundry Service and Christina's After Care.

Her journey comes from a difficult beginning.

Christina says she grew up struggling and knows what it means to have nothing. From a young age, she promised herself that she would build something better — not only for herself, but also for her children.

When she had her son, Junior, she decided to name two of her businesses after him.

“Every time someone calls my business, they are calling my son's name.”

For Christina, the name is more than a business name. She wants her son to know that his mother built something with his name attached to it.

Starting With One Machine

Christina says she started with one machine and a few items.

Today, by her account, that small beginning has grown into three different ventures.

Junior's Boutique sells clothing for ladies, men and children, as well as kids' tablets, frontals and hair, noodles and other products. Christina also says she offers courier services nationwide.

Junior's Laundry Service provides washing and ironing, including blankets and school uniforms. She offers free pickup and delivery in Ga-Thoka.

Christina's After Care provides a place for children to stay after school while their parents are still at work, including food and homework support.

One Mother, Three Hustles

Running three ventures does not mean everything is easy.

Christina says she continues to face challenges including electricity, water and courier costs.

But she continues.

For her, the businesses are connected by one bigger purpose: breaking the cycle of poverty and showing her son that it is possible to come from nothing and still build something.

“One mother. Three hustles. One reason.”

Christina also says that every customer who buys from her, uses her laundry service or supports one of her products contributes to the dream she is building.
